Duration: 2025–2027 Learnership Programme
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Rural Metro Fire Fighter Learnership 2025, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Educational Qualification: National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
- Firefighting Certification: Fire Fighter 1 and Hazmat Awareness
- Fitness & Health: Must be medically and physically fit (successful candidates will undergo fitness and medical assessments)
- Criminal Record: No criminal record
- Driver’s Licence: Valid Code B driver’s licence (Code C/EC with PrDP will be an added advantage)
- Administrative Compliance: Willingness to comply with course and training administration requirements
Key Responsibilities
As a Learner Fire Fighter at Rural Metro EMS, you will:

- Respond promptly to fire, rescue, and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incidents.
- Assist in extinguishing fires and rescuing trapped or injured individuals.
- Provide basic emergency medical care to victims during incidents.
- Participate actively in training drills, fitness exercises, and emergency response simulations.
- Maintain firefighting vehicles, tools, and equipment in optimal condition.
- Support fire safety awareness and community education initiatives.
- Complete all required administrative documentation and incident reports.
- Adhere to Health, Safety, and Quality (HSQ) standards and organizational procedures.
