This comprehensive training program is based in the Hessequa Region, Western Cape, and aims to develop skilled and qualified fire fighters with practical experience in fire, rescue, and emergency operations.

Position: Learner Fire Fighter (x8)

Location: Hessequa Region, Western Cape

Duration: 2025–2027 Learnership Programme

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Rural Metro Fire Fighter Learnership 2025, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
  • Firefighting Certification: Fire Fighter 1 and Hazmat Awareness
  • Fitness & Health: Must be medically and physically fit (successful candidates will undergo fitness and medical assessments)
  • Criminal Record: No criminal record
  • Driver’s Licence: Valid Code B driver’s licence (Code C/EC with PrDP will be an added advantage)
  • Administrative Compliance: Willingness to comply with course and training administration requirements

Key Responsibilities

As a Learner Fire Fighter at Rural Metro EMS, you will:

  • Respond promptly to fire, rescue, and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incidents.
  • Assist in extinguishing fires and rescuing trapped or injured individuals.
  • Provide basic emergency medical care to victims during incidents.
  • Participate actively in training drills, fitness exercises, and emergency response simulations.
  • Maintain firefighting vehicles, tools, and equipment in optimal condition.
  • Support fire safety awareness and community education initiatives.
  • Complete all required administrative documentation and incident reports.
  • Adhere to Health, Safety, and Quality (HSQ) standards and organizational procedures.
