Role Introduction

The Metallurgical Engineer plays an essential role in understanding, developing, and improving metal properties and materials. Key Responsibilities

1. Testing and Analysis

  • Conduct metallurgical investigations and analyse the physical and chemical properties of metals and raw materials.
  • Perform testing to ensure products meet required standards and specifications.

2. Failure Investigation

  • Identify the root causes of metal failures or defects.
  • Recommend practical solutions to prevent recurrence.

3. Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to enhance metallurgical processes.
  • Apply best practices and innovative techniques to improve product performance and quality.

4. Project Management

  • Plan and assess new projects, including estimating material requirements, costs, and timelines.

5. Safety and Compliance

  • Follow all safety protocols and support a safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.

6. Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineers, production teams, and other departments to select the best materials for various applications.

7. Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare clear technical reports, including investigation results and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of metallurgical studies and findings.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • BEng Degree in Metallurgical Engineering (NQF Level 8/10).

Experience and Technical Skills

  • Minimum of five years of relevant industry experience.
  • Knowledge of capital project initiation and management processes.
  • Experience with SAP PS and PM modules.
  • Strong project management capability.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Computer literacy, including MS Office and modern analytical, design, engineering, and production tools.
